it
==.Mainstream political parties are divided. Need
to analyze objectively problems, positions and prospects
of especially Nepal Congress and UML as their past
is full of controversies, corruption’s, conspiracies,
power hunger and people’s misuse..
== Opposition within NC and UML are new faces of reality.
-- In principal four courses of actions of on-going
struggles inside NC and UML are possible according
to some experts
1) The struggles, if conducted in a political and
professional manner, could give birth to a new Congress
and a new UML, provided the inner parties opposition
can go beyond catch phrases such as "Total Democracy"
but focus on the transformational needs of state and
society. Such an agenda should include topics of democracy,
cooperative federalism, multiparty system and socio-economic
change.
2) Opposition within NC and UML might be thrown out.
This is possible as their parties have taken such
actions in the past. But some opposition members especially
in UML have shown in the past a strong submissiveness.
If that happens we will be back to nowhere.
3) In case of opposition ouster or exit from NC and
UML opposition members may form a new political party
or may be lost in the void. If they decide to form
political parties, they may have to struggle hard
but new parties in other countries show survival and
change is possible..
4) If opposing factions from both the parties leave,
they may together form a center-left party. In that
case opposition from Congress and UML could put their
energies and resources together to advance a progressive
agenda. With this new political formations could emerge
and the political process could gain momentum.
5) More recently the mainstream parties have shown
some motivation towards reclaiming their mass base
by adopting the democratic agenda and by leading the
popular agitation in the cities.
6) Media advocates of the multiparty system and the
movement launched by the civil society should share
responsibilities by offering their ideas and services
to clean up the mess in the political formations.
Facit
There is a chance for Nepal. An improved politico-organizational
health of the 'mainstream' political parties will
contribute to realize the democratic hopes and wishes
of the people and will help to attain the goal of
a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Nepal. Don’t
despair.
